Frequently
Asked Questions
Will
I get hungry when I do a fast?
Three times a
day we take an herbal formula which includes psyllium husk, a fibrous
bulking agent, and bentonite clay. This formula is quite filling and very
few people get hungry during the fast. Once the body goes into fasting
mode, this usually takes from one to two days, whatever hunger pains may
come are over ridden by the motivation to fast, eliminate and clean old
material from the body.
How will I feel during the fast?
Almost everyone
goes through what we call a cleansing reaction or a healing crises, as
toxins are pulled from tissues and dumped into the blood stream. This
is a time when fasters don't feeling well. This usually happens on the
2nd, 3rd or 4th day of the fast, or may happen anytime. Each person is
different. The feeling could be nausea, dizziness, headache, tiredness,
muscle aches and pains or exhaustion, heaviness, bloating, moods of anger,
depression, fear, sadness and even excitement for some people whose moods
go from up to down. Once the toxins make it to the intestinal tract and
the kidneys and are eliminated this feeling passes and one feels much
better—many times better than they have ever felt!
Why do we do
colonic irrigation during the fast?
We take herbs
to loosen up the old material throughout the digestive organs this material
needs to be eliminated as quickly as possible so that the body doesn't
absorb it from the intestinal tract. The colonics get it out fast and
efficiently allowing us to go from feeling bad with no energy to feeling
well and energetic in a very short time.
What is the reason
for doing a fast?
The reason why
we fast is due to our life style. Pollutants, bad habits, natural toxicity
from the way the body deteriorates over time, and other factors will cause
a person to accumulate a certain amount of toxic old fecal and mucoid
material as well as free oxygen radicals that reek havoc in the body,
mind and emotions. A fast is the most significant method for eliminating
this old material and to overcome disease states, and the predisposition
for disease to take place in the future.
What is the difference
between an elimination fast and a water fast?
In an elimination
fast we are constantly getting out old material where as in a water fast
you may not have a bowel movement for many days. It is frequent for toxins to
stay in the body and be reabsorbed without being given herbs and doing
colonic irrigation. This can be dangerous for some people who are ill.
One can have a lot of energy by taking in drinks that are high in minerals
during an elimination fast where in a water fast one often requires bed
rest.
When we do the
colonic irrigation where does the water go?
The water goes
into the large intestines the opposite direction that stools are eliminated.
In a colonic the water will go throughout the whole large intestines.
It stops at the ileocecal valve, a one way valve that will not open into
the small intestines.
Is the method
that we use to do the colonics hygienic?
Fasters are provided
with a two liter enema bag that they can take with them when they go.
It is very hygienic, safe and easy to use.
Will a seven
day fast be enough time for me to get completely cleaned out?
A seven day fast
is a good fast but it will not be enough time to eliminate all the toxic
material in the body. Longer fasts are advised if a faster is not feeling
well and has enough time It takes several fasts over a period
of several years to eliminate all the old material.
How soon after
my fast can I eat pizza, steak and drink alcohol?
We advise fasters
to stay away from hard to digest foods and eat raw fruits and vegetables
for as long as one can, then adding whole grains, legumes, seeds and nuts
when desired, after three or four days for at least up to the first ten
days. This gives the body an opportunity to experience the full effects
of the fast. This also allows adequate time to build and work up to a
normal bowel movement with accumulating and reestablishing the good friendly
bacteria in the intestinal tract.
How do I prepare
for the fast?
Prepare for a
fast by eating a whole foods diet. This should include fresh juices, fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, legumes, seeds and nuts. If you are on any medication,
if you are smoking, drinking or taking any recreational drugs it is a
good idea to stop these at least one month before you fast. It will make
the fasting process much easier physically, emotionally and spiritually
having eliminated these substances from your consciousness before hand.
Two to Four days before your fast it is best to eat just fresh fruit,
if possible.
What is the best
attitude to have during a fast?
Don't have expectations
about what will come out of you. Learn to be in the present moment. Make
your fasting experience a retreat experience: walk, sleep, swim, do your
colonic, meditate, take your herbs with mindfull attention. . . If emotions
and stressful thoughts arise try to look at them from a distance, without
judgment, without owning them or attaching to them. Relax as much as you
can and give in to letting your higher self guide you into the experience
of tlhe fasting process. It is a great teacher.
