It is disheartening to learn of the increasing numbers of people who have cancer these days. For many of us it is becoming more and more frequent to hear of friends, colleagues and loved ones who have been diagnosed with the disease. After having a visit from a friend, whom I spoke with about alternatives, I was inspired to write the next Dharma Healing Newsletter with the topic Alternative Cancer Therapies. Here are just a few words about some of the many wonderful alternative therapies for cancer. At the end of the letter is a short list of websites of helpful clinics and contacts. I hope if you find something of interest here and have a loved one or friend with cancer, I sincerely encourage you to forward this newsletter on to them. Suggested by Dr. Melvyn Werbach, MD, in the Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients June 2004 issue. All of these supplements have been found to be very beneficial for cancer patients. Vitamin C (mixture of ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate and calcium ascorbate): 12 grams or to bowel tolerance Vitamin B3 (pyridoxine): 250mg Folic acid: 5-10 mg Other B Vitamins: 25 or 50 times the RDAs Vitamin E: 800 mg Beta Carotene: 25,000-50,000 IU Selenium: 0.2-0.5 mg Zinc sulfate: 220 mg Calcium, Magnesium or a multi-mineral tablet or T.J. Clark's Colloidal Minerals Coenzyme Q10 300 mg These supplements were added to standard treatments for a group of patients who took part in a clinical trial with combined dietary instructions to reduce red meats, increase green vegetables, avoid sugar, coffee, cocoa and milk products. I would strongly suggest staying completely away from red meat, chicken, lamb, shell fish and most fish; also I suggest staying away from processed packaged foods of any kind as well as cigarettes and alcohol and drugs. This trial was conducted by Dr. Abram Hoffer and Dr. Pauling starting in 1989 for 5 years. The out come was shown to increase the survival times of patients and enhance the quality of life while reducing the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. 2. Hypertherapy has been known for 100s of years to have strong biological effects upon cancer cells. In the Well Being Journal, Special Edition: Healing Cancer Naturally, Dr. Robert Bradford and Henry W. Allen state in an article entitled Treating Cancer with Heat or Perfusion Whole Body Hypertherapy that “the body generates a temperature (called metabolic hyperthermia) that is tolerated by normal tissue but high enough to kill the infectious organisms and microbes.”(Author's note: it is very interesting to notice that most people who are very toxic usually don't like to sweat but feel much better after they do) There are two types of hyperthermia. The first is called extracorporeal or "heating from outside of the body", for example hot steams, saunas, hot oil baths, mineral hot springs, infrared and others. The second type of hyperthermia is called perfusion technology. In perfusion technology the blood is pumped outside of the body. It is cooled, heated, filtered and oxygenated and then returned. In this technique the body is heated through the blood from the "inside out". According to the article, hyperthermia with the perfusion technology causes cancer cells to go through the greatest damage within a 24 hour period after exposure to heat, while normal cells undergo self-repair. Blood flow to any tumor is reduced and the temperature within the mass begins to rise as much as 2 or 3 degrees. The increase in temperature causes thermal stress within the tumor, reducing nutrient availability and reducing the tumor pH. Even a 1 degree rise in temperature can make a profound difference. According to a recent article in the October issue of The Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, . . To an organism one thousand times smaller than us, a “mere” one degree of our measuring might be a thousand degrees by a parasite’s measurement! And remember when we have a bacterial or viral infection, what does Nature do? She develops fever in the body in order to combat them. (Food & Chemical Allergies, p.72) 3. The Gerson Institute offers a multiple therapy program that enhances the functioning of the immune system through the use of micro and macronutitents, phytochemicals, neutraceuticals and other organic components found in organic natural foods. The Gerson Institute's dietary approach to healing cancer incorporates 13 organic freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices throughout the day, a lacto-vegetarian diet high in nutrition with extreme fat restriction; sodium restriction and very little protein. Other intensive therapies include numerous coffee and/or chamomile tea colonics provided throughout the day, hydrotherapy wet sheet packs, hyperthermia amongst many more. Supplements include potassium compounds, thyroid hormone, Lugol's solution (an iodine compound), injectable crude liver extract with Vitamin B-12, pancreatic enzymes and castor oil. Many medical sources have stated that The Gerson Institute "boasts a 30 to 40% cure rate for terminally ill cancer patients, and a 70 to 60% cure rate for earlier cancers". Their intensive nutritional protocol is patient centered, working closely with nature to help the sick body rid itself of disease through the most supportive intervention with nature's healing foods, juices and nontoxic medicines.
4. The last and final alternative therapy to discuss, and the one I have used and found success with, is Ozone therapy. The theory behind using Ozone or Hydrogen Peroxide 35% to treat cancer cells is because cancer is believed to be a fermentative disease caused by a compromised robust oxidative mechanism. Cells don’t have enough oxygen. All cells of the body breathe in oxygen. As stated in The Well Being Journal of Healing Cancer Naturally, in the article Medical Ozone and Cancer by Ed McCabe: Dr. Otto Warburg, a two time Nobel Prize winner, discovered the cause of cancer. Cancer cells tend to be toxic cells, do to all of the poisons in our diet, environment and medicines. If the cell is covered up with garbage, you block the oxygen from getting into it. With toxicity normal blood circulation is impaired as well as the normal pH of the blood for carrying oxygen. If cells are so full of toxicity, 60% of the oxygen it needs to function properly is not there. The cells then are “short of breath”. If there isn’t enough oxygen cells become damaged. Damage can mean that the cell begins to mutate to survive. Dr. Warburg, Ed McCabe and many other oxygen advocates believe that once a cell mutates it reverts to 31 steps back in its evolution to a green plant-type cell that just grows and grows. This is cancer. “The cell has lost its higher functions: it no longer heals or regulates things, it no longer makes hormones, it no longer digests food.” Every cell in the body, has a natural instinct to survive. In our cells, the DNA and RNA are so programmed to survive that they accept staying alive in a lower form, one without oxygen. By changing their respiration from being aerobic, depending on oxygen, to anaerobic, not depending on oxygen, cells start to ferment glucose to make energy. Thus the normal ATP energy factor that is produced in cells, cannot be made. An impaired form is made instead which uses little oxygen and leaves behind lactic acid and alcohol, fermented waste products which create acidosis: excess acid in the cells. This acidic cellular condition leads to cancer. In Ozone therapy the body’s cells are flooded with oxygen. Daily, over several months, every cell becomes saturated with oxygen, including the brain, going past the blood/brain barrier, the spine, bone marrow and the heart. As the Oxygen flushes away the acid, anaerobic bacteria, viruses and toxic residues that cause disease, cells are cleaned and given a new life. There are many forms of Ozone therapies. The article gives several, such as: recirculatory autohemo perfusion (already spoken about), autohemotherapy; home Ozone treatments such as: Ozone sauna suit/bagging, Ozone rectal insufflation, Ozone charged drinking water, Ozone vaginal insufflation, Ozone ear insufflation, Ozone air purification. Hydrogen Peroxide 35% is the best alternative to the Ozone and much less expensive. There are many other alternative therapies available.
